New study predicting social media growth in healthcare

PWC has released a study that predicts that there will be significant growth in the use of social media in healthcare.  The study highlights that the younger survey participants are more likely to access health information online-- which becomes significant as that generation becomes caregivers to the aging boomer population.  The survey briefly highlights that regulation will continue to impact how companies and physicians are able to use these channels-- noting that more context needs to be…See More

Smartphone built into prosthetic arm

Really interesting article on how a man had his prosthetic arm built with a dock for his smartphone.  I think this takes the statement about technology being attached to someone's hip to a new level!  Will be interesting to see if anyone takes this to the next level-- docking stations for iPads, anyone? …See More

Social Media in Crisis Communications

Healthcare Communications News has posted an interesting article on 4 steps to reduce a social media crisis in a hospital.  One thing I think should be added-- or changed-- across most social media policies is more clarifications around new tools.  A social media policy is outdated almost just as quickly as its created. Is there anything on this list that you would change? …See More

"I agree with Tonya. In issues like those outlined, quality of the information should be the most important factor. Secondary to that, in my opinion, would be timely ness. it would be great to see a tool that could aggregrate from specific,…"

Tanya Holloway commented on Cheri Keith's blog post How will Storify impact healthcare?
"I think it will be interesting to see the effect that Storify has on health events such as pandemics, to give a past example, swine flu. There was a lot of hype around the different causes, how one could catch it, and the treatments available. I…"

How will Storify impact healthcare?

Storify, a much buzzed about start-up in California, launched publicly today touting its ability aggregate information in real-time from across social media platforms.  It of course proved its value during the Japan tragedies- but there could certainly be other applications for healthcare. What about during drug or device recalls, or pandemics?  I'd love to hear your thoughts! …See More
