Communications: globalisation, localisation, glocalisation or personalisation??

Within communications, can there still be a need for globalisation, localisation or even glocalisation?? Especially in the world of healthcare communications, surely this is now a case of personalisation!‘Local people have local needs’ I hear you cry, and yes, a need for local understanding is paramount...as is a need for understanding the world of business, in many cases as a global entity – with pharma operating more and more from one HQ base, be that in America, the EU or APAC, it is almost…See More

It ‘tis the season to be jolly, however I often find this time of year a stark reminder that life is in fact very fickle.

Quite a title, I know! However, this reminder of life’s vulnerability I feel, is also great inspiration and driver for the work that we do. Agreed, I am no Mother Teresa and I’m not directly saving lives, however a well thought through healthcare communications campaign can make a difference – can’t it?! With the ever increasing blurring of lines between pharmaceuticals and lifestyle brands, plus the continued switch of power to the patient – the pro-sumer reign now has a strong grasp on…See More

Just how healthy is healthcare content online?

The PR’s role in freeing the flow of information from manufacturers and care givers to patients and consumers within the healthcare arena is nothing if not a challenge. Online communication channels have changed the way society manages health. We look up symptoms on Wikipedia and NHS Choices, blog about illnesses, discuss health issues, conditions and side-effects on websites, Facebook and Twitter: and in many cases except guidance via the same means. The explosion of user-generated content has…See More

What is PR? And what are the benefits?

I have always struggled to explain what it is I do when asked by a stranger...a response simply saying ‘I work in healthcare PR’ normally results in a blank response or misunderstanding that I am a personal assistant (much to my dismay)...I have also opted for ‘I work to connect the medical industry, media and general public’, to which I’m perceived as some kind of sales person...so to the unknowing, what is it we do? I think perhaps the reason why this response is so tricky, is that our role…See More

Healthcare mobile apps - resource or device?

In light of current debate around the need for a revision in CE Mark approvals on medical devices, I wonder where the line falls with regards to Mobile apps aimed at healthcare professionals?…

Defining PR...

The definition of PR, I feel, is currently ever-changing. For each campaign I work on, the aims, objectives and strategy, slightly adapt my opinion of what my work achieves and therefore what definition I would use to encapsulate it.

Obviously I am not alone when trying to define PR as the Public Relations…
