NYT - Coming Next: Using an App as Prescribed

At the end of my last doctor's appointment, my physician handed me slip of paper with instructions to download an app. The half sheet of paper directed me to the app in the iTunes store (with a QR code, no less) and had my doctor's identification number printed in bold under the app name - Gazelle. "For your blood test results," he said. I downloaded the app in the small waiting period between him leaving the room and the nurse coming in to take my blood. Days later, the signature iPhone alert…See More

Are you sitting down?

Probably. I know I am. For at least 10 hours a day, I am sitting - on the metro, at my desk, at the dinner table. So imagine my horror to read more bad news about the damage of sitting down. A new study, published this Tuesday in BMJ, found that sitting down for more than three hours a day can cut a person's life expectancy by two years. This is certainly not the first study to find that sitting down for…See More

Remembering a Health Innovator

As a long-time Apple enthusiast, I was deeply saddened to learn about the death of Steve Jobs last night. Perhaps President Obama said it best – I learned about Jobs’ death on my iPhone on the way back from dinner, a true testament to the way he innovated technology and the way we communicate. It wasn’t until I got home and started reading about Jobs’ legacy that I…See More

Palmer Reuther commented on Heather Gitlitz's blog post The Power of Pink
"Great post, Heather. I agree with you that more awareness is needed across other disease states, and if it's color-washing that will achieve that, than so be it."

The Power of Pink

As a Washingtonian, I’m as cynical as they come. Cancer awareness, however, is rarely an issue that causes me to raise an eyebrow. Which is why I was surprised to read that this morning, USA Today announced the results of a Gallup Poll which found Americans have mixed emotions about National Breast Cancer…See More
