Inactivity 'killing as many as smoking'

Researchers say the problem with the lack of exercise causing as many deaths as smoking across the world, should be treated as a pandemic. A pandemic! I admit, I live a bit of a sedentary lifestyle – only hitting the gym or lacing up my running shoes once or twice a month, if I’m lucky – but a pandemic!? The recently published report coincides with the Olympic anticipation, and estimates that about 1/3 of adults are not participating in enough physical activity. 1/3 equates to about one in 10…See More

Game on: Stanford develops tool for teaching doctors to treat sepsis

I admit it, I love video games. I grew up playing Atari with a joystick, then thought Nintendo was the greatest upgrade, and Sega Gensis opened doors and windows for today’s Playstation and Xbox.  I recently learned of a new game inspired by the world’s most popular game Tetris, called Septris. Created by Stanford researchers, Septris was created to help physicians understand how to recognize sepsis, a life-threatening infection that takes more…See More

Happy & Healthy Working Moms

I was pleased when I saw information from a study published in the December issue of the Journal of Family Psychology that working mothers are healthier and happier.  Starting in second grade I was a ‘latchkey-kid,’ meaning I had my own set of house keys to let myself in after school because both of my parents worked full time.…See More
