Health Care Trends With a Social Media Twist
The definition of PR, I feel, is currently ever-changing. For each campaign I work on, the aims, objectives and strategy, slightly adapt my opinion of what my work achieves and therefore what definition I would use to encapsulate it.
Obviously I am not alone when trying to define PR as the Public Relations Society of America have unveiled their three candidates for the definition of public relations. They are as follows:
Definition No. 1:
Public relations is the management function of researching, engaging, communicating, and collaborating with stakeholders in an ethical manner to build mutually-beneficial relationships and achieve results.
Definition No. 2:
Public relations is a strategic communication process that develops and maintains mutually-beneficial relationships between organizations and their key publics.
Definition No. 3:
Public relations is the engagement between organizations and individuals to achieve mutual understanding and realize strategic goals.
They are encouraging feedback here: http://prdefinition.prsa.org/index.php/2012/01/11/candidates-for-a-... - so what’s your thoughts? I am not sure any have fully captured all that we do - maybe the term ‘PR’ itself needs to be readdressed??
'Strategic relations' perhaps??
