Health Care Trends With a Social Media Twist

mHealth Reaches the Developing World

Really impressed with what I just caught wind of through the #hcsm tag ... a new platform takes advantage of mobile - the most widely used communication technology in the world - and designs incentive based quizzes sent via SMSto educate, engage, and empower people on health related issues.

While mHealth has been slow to reach third-world countries, this all makes sense when you figure the ITU last calculated there exist 5 billion wireless subscribers; over 70% of whom reside in low- and middle income countries!

Seems to me using SMS to spread awareness and encourage dialogue is a good way to go -- widespread reach with a personalized touch.
